Abstract
India is a country where mythological tales mould the religious beliefs and cultural practices of its society significantly. Mahabharatha and Ramayana are the two most compelling mythological epics in Hinduism. Hindus rely on these scriptural texts to learn about the norms of an ideal life. With merging of male chauvinism in the descending mythological tales, patriarchs started to use mythology to condition women into accepting submission and obedience. In Ramayana, misogynists manipulate the character of Sita to promote their acceptable norms. The qualities of sacrificing nature and selfless devotion are associated with her character, which in turn inspires women to put herself secondary to needs of the society.
