Abstract

The objectives of the present study are to determine if there is a significant correlation between severity of violence and locus of control in employed and unemployed women, and to determine if there are significant differences in overall severity of violence, the nine dimensions of severity of violence and locus of control between employed and unemployed women. A sample of 60 women (30 employed and 30 unemployed), aged 20–40 years, responded to the Severity of Violence against Women Scale (Marshal, 1992) and the Locus of Control Scale (Nowicki& Duke, 1974). This study reported that there is a significant correlation between the dimension ofact of moderate violenceand locus of control in employed women. None of the other correlations were found to be significant. The results further revealed no significant differences between the employed and unemployed women with respect to overall severity of violence, the nine dimensions of severity of violence and locus of control.
