The state of sanitation has been an important indicator of human development in any region and so it was realized in MDG as goal 7, which is to ensure environmental sustainability. But according to a fact sheet revealed by United Nations there are 2.5 billion people in the world having no access to basic sanitation such as toilets or latrines and thea majority, i.e., 82 per cent of people practicing open defecation now live in middle-income populous countries. India too has more or less share in this regard. The present research paper focuses on the journey of: “Nirmal Bharat”- an initiative related to eradication of open defecation and providing basic sanitation facilities to the masses lacking it and tries to trace out the odd tactics, ground realities, management issues and various socio-economic implications with special reference to the Girwa Block of Udaipur district.
