Abstract

This research paper gives a general introduction of MGNREGA scheme in Udham Singh Nagar District, Uttarakhand and analyzes the performance of MGNREGA. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (NREGA) renamed as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is the most pragmatic approach to the problems of rural poverty and unemployment. In fact, the Scheme ensures the economic security of the rural poor by providing guaranteed wage employment. MGNREGA has positive impact on employment pattern of women. It has delivered the largest employment programmed in human history. It has two category of objectives, primary objective is augmenting wage employment and auxiliary objectives is strengthening natural resource management through works that address causes of chronic poverty like flood, drought,
