Abstract

Shashi Deshpande is one of the most accomplished contemporary women novelists in Indian English fictional scenario. In her writings, she reflects a realistic picture of contemporary middle class woman. She focuses on women issues; and picturises the psychological complexities of the individual mind. She seeks to portray the agonies and tensions suffered by sensitive women. Her novels generally centre around family relationships. Deshpande says in an interview:
