Abstract

Emotions are special ingredients in the life of an individual. Understanding people’s experiences of music is influenced by a number of personal, social, political and cultural factors. In the present study an attempt was made to understand how personal experiences and state of mind influence and shape the music of an individual and how does it get impacted by the music in return, that is how people understand and express their emotions through music. Along with this, an attempt was also made to explore the various facets of shringara rasa and it was found that shringara (love) existed in variety of forms: erotic, parental love and divine love and how participants deal with these various forms. Five qualitative interviews and two biographies were taken for the same and thematic analysis was used to make meaning of the data.
