As the world is moving more and more toward operating as a single integrated marketplace, a large part of that change is due to the growth of multinational organizations.

Abstract

The technique of electron tomography (also referred to as transmission electron microtomography and 3D TEM) is a powerful tool to visualize at the nanometre scale and study in detail the three- dimensional (3D) morphological organization of the photoactive layers of polymer solar cells. To reconstruct the 3D structure of a given specimen, electron tomography uses a series of 2D projections taken by TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope) at different angles by tilting the specimen with respect to the electron beam. In this chapter, the general principles of electron tomography are reviewed, including different aspects of tilt-series acquisition and alignment, and 3D reconstruction methods.

Abstract

Hands-on therapy, as massage, has been an ambiguous issue in physiotherapy. The head of the physiotherapy college at Bergen became well known for her slogan in the late 1970s and early 1980s: “Less massage, more health promotion!” (Haugen 1997:263, 266). This was in many ways a suggestive description of how massage has been handled in physiotherapy over the years.

Abstract

The paper analysed the outward flow of Foreign Direct Investment(O-FDI) from India. Continuous Changes in policy environment since 1992 have encouraged and enabled the Indian MNCs to take investment in foreign countries. The paper found that during post reform period Indian multinationals have been investing vigorously at international level. Total numbers of Indian firms, outward stocks & flows have recorded impressive growth since 1991. Comparative analysis of the flows of FDI and OFDI clearly brings out the fact that FDI inflows continuously remained higher than that of the OFDI flows. However, the gap between the FDI and OFDI flows, which was very wide before the year 2000, has been narrowed down substantially after the year 2001.

Abstract

This brief overview of rural credit in 20th century India finds a remarkable continuity in the problems faced by the poor throughout this period. These include dependence on usurious moneylenders and the operation of a deeply exploitative grid of interlocked, imperfect markets. We articulate the theoretical and historical case for nationalisation of banks and provide evidence of its positive impact on rural credit and development. Certain excesses led to reforms unleashed in the 1990s. This did increase bank profitability but at the cost of the poor and of backward regions. While the MFI model of microfinance is unsustainable, the SHG-Bank Linkage approach can make a positive impact on security and empowerment of the disadvantaged. Much more than microfinance is needed to overcome the problems that have persisted over the last 100 years.

Abstract

Worldwide, the proportion of people aged over 60 years is growing faster than any other group: the WHO expects this group to grow by 223 percent between 1970 and 2025. The consequences of aging are important for society in general, and for health care facilities and organizations in particular. A specific problem is pain, which is a serious and often unrecognized health problem among older adults. The reported prevalence of pain in the older adults varies, and may even reach 83% in nursing homes. National and international surveys show that pain is not always adequately assessed and managed. Pain being a subjective experience, self-report is usually considered the gold standard. Although tools such as numeric rating scales are appropriate for use in older adults with mild to moderate cognitive impairments, they may be of little help in persons with severe or advanced cognitive impairments.

Abstract

To stay relevant in the digital world, you need to be in Second Life. No, wait a minute! — that s the way we might have started this chapter five years ago. While Linden Lab may now be a thing of the past, Web 2.0 is, more than ever, the primary stage of the digital present and possibly the centre ground of all our futures. New media, new platforms and new usage patterns are taking hold, especially among the young. To stay relevant to tomorrow s shoppers, retailers need to understand the mindset and the behaviour of these digital natives. But that does not mean that each and every technological fad should become a part of their marketing mix. Paying tribute to the vagrant nature of the virtual world, this chapter will focus on the five megatrends we believe are here to stay: constant connectivity, social interaction, two-way marketing, consumer control and total recall.

Abstract: Call centres were first recognized as such in their largest incarnations: airline reservation centres, catalogue ordering companies, consumer-oriented problem solvers. Until the early 1990s, only the largest centres across the globe could afford the investment in technology that allowed them to handle huge volumes. The aim of the study is to know about the growth of BPO’s in India and to know how BPO’s help in reducing unemployment rate in the country. A sample of 150respondents is taken. Questionnaire has been analysed with the help of pie diagram & bar chart and different interpretations have been made to study the impact of BPO’s in India. The study concluded that as per the estimates, India is poised to become a No. 1 BPO destination in the Asia-Pacific overwhelming all the so called odds. Particularly, when it comes to ITES-BPO tier, with a current base of 96,000 call centre seats
