Love is a prominent theme in the novels of Henry James. He, more than any other novelist writing in English with the exception of D.H. Lawrence, devoted his fiction to the study of the various forms of love. It will surprise those who regard James only as a “difficult” writer concerned with the baroque intricacies of style and form, or as a super-subtle psychologist of the mannered upper-class, comfortable only in the “museum” world of palazzos, galleries, and burnished drawing-rooms.

Abstract

This paper studies the decentralization aspects as far as use of Management Accounting Systems (MAS) “operational approach” is concerned. Not only in the Sultanate of Oman but also in India and in many developed and developing countries I have observed that Management Accounting System(s) is used in a conventional format and not in open access format. This conventional format approach is mainly an approach of centralized management accounting system. Specifically speaking, almost all financial institutions either are or has to be customer-oriented. Without customer we can only dream of doing business. By customer orientation I mean creating new and/or increasing number of customers via customers through “effective marketing”, increased “customer facilitation”, increased “support services” etc. This can be achieved through decentralization and open-access system of conventional management accounting system(s) with the initiatives and programs of customer-orientation. This paper explores and shows the relationship between decentralization and open-access of conventional management accounting system(s) with the initiatives and programs of customer-orientation (i.e. effective marketing, increased customer facilitation and support, etc.). In its totality, the paper suggests that current operational approach of centralized management accounting systems used in financial institutions in developed / developing countries and/or in many countries are not in accordance to the ambitions of increased customer-orientation, and therefore, to obtain such orientation, these systems are in need of decentralization which will allow all calculations, statistics, and other processed data that can be viewed by customer-intensive divisions like marketing, sales, customer support, human resource etc. as well for better results and help in creating more benefits for all concerned parties.

Healthy human development is a necessary foundation for all development progress. Without healthy populations, the achievement of development objectives will be out of reach. Good health is fundamental to the ability of individuals to realize their full human potential. It is also a crucially important economic asset. Low levels of health impede people’s ability to work and earn a living for themselves and their families. The enjoyment of good health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition. On a national scale, poor population health diminishes productivity and impedes economic growth, while investment in better health outcomes is generally seen as an investment in economic growth.

Abstract

Though all these representations of violence, communalism is established as a fact that leads to dehumanization, shrinkages of human sympathies and snapping of meaningful communication between the people. They recognize it as a brute force that created disjunction between passion and reason, between man and society, man and nature, and man and civilisation. However, in most of these writers, these features of communalism get delineated more as descriptive set-pieces than as consciously and analytically thought of manifestations. Despite the dialectical nature of violence and its representation through the binary structures, yielding multiplicity of analyses and arguments about violence, it is believed that creative effort of each writer was underlain by one single motif, that is , to expose and lay bare the subterfuges of human nature and project them on to the world of fiction. This implication of vital human significance has lent a universal appeal to the Indo-English fiction of partition violence and it is this that is proposed as the subject of investigation in the subsequent section.

Abstract

Toni Morrison, a black woman writer, was the first black to receive the honour of noble prize, which is a validation of her personal achievements, the artistry of African-American literature. She has a deep insight into the psyche of the blacks and the problems of the black world. She writes about the blacks because she has experienced the black world from very near by participating in it. However, her humanistic vision transcends both colour and creed as her stories present the socio-psychological realities of human life under duress. She, in her works, tries to make a connection between history and personal and cultural memories to participate in the formation of the Black community’s identity. The author, also, illustrates how the African American identity could be reconstructed through its own cultural heritage and social structure. She depicts an enormous and horrific context which is the period of slavery and reconstruction. After the abolition of slavery, the psyches of the characters are filled with traumatic experiences that they faced during slavery, which have influenced their personalities and damaged their relations with themselves. Key words: Slavery, exploitation, black women, history, racism.

For the past 15 to 20 years, marketers have been talking about the need to develop systems to tie every aspect of marketing together from developing marketing communications to selling products and providing after sale customer service. In a perfect world, an MIS system would be created from the ground up and integrated with all of a business’s systems and processes. In such a world, every sale and lead could be traced back to the marketing effort that produced it. Also, every complaint or compliment would be tracked to the source. Skilled customer service personnel would quickly turn all negatives into positives, and skilled marketing communicators would create content that incorporated the testimonials.

Abstract

To ensure quality patient care hospitals invest in nursing intellectual capital by allocating financial, human and material resources for nurses to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe patient care. This study’s purpose was to test selected propositions of the middle-range theory of nursing intellectual capital which provides a conceptualization of the influence of nurses’ knowledge, skills and experience (nursing human capital) to patient and organizational outcomes. The theory was systematically developed after a critical review of the literature. It proposes that nursing human capital (registered nurses’ experience, and knowledge and skills acquired from continuing professional development including university courses, conferences, workshops, in-services, specialty certification) is related to variables within the work environment (nurse staffing, employer support for nurse continuing professional development), which in turn, is associated with the quality of patient care (adverse events) and the recruitment and retention of nurses. The theory also proposes that nursing structural capital, nursing knowledge available within practice guidelines, is associated with the quality of patient care. A cross-sectional design was used to test the proposed relationships.

Abstract

A growing body of research has drawn attention to the hierarchical and bureaucratic nature of the hospital organizational environment in which nurses seek to resolve ethical problems related to patient care, whereas other studies have focused on the impact of nurses’ personal or professional qualities on those nurses’ ethical problem solving. This qualitative investigation sought to elucidate the extent to which nurses perceived their personal or professional qualities, as well as organizational characteristics, as influencing their ethical decision making. This investigator interviewed 10 registered nurses in 2 acute-care hospitals that were different in size, location, and type. A relational ethics lens assisted in the analysis of the data, emphasizing ways in which the nurses’ ethical problem solving was socially situated within a complex of relationships with others, including patients, families, physicians, and coworkers. Data analysis revealed key themes, including the nurses’ concern for patients, professional experience, layered relationships with others, interactions within the organization, and situational analysis of contexts and relationships. Subthemes included the nurses’ relationships with patients, physicians, patients’ families, and coworkers.

Educational inequality forms up gradually as an ongoing process. Education is affected by social, political and economic status of people. Individuals who are from wealthy section of the society always have the privilege to reach out for better schools and institutions. While those from the deprived section are prone to lower quality, in the process, the system contributes to a deepening chasm. On the other hand, the educationally enlightened group gains more access to political and economic system turning them to be favorable to suit their interest of their own kinds. Such a structure has an adverse effect in the deprived section affecting them from multifarious direction. It is evident from the observation that if educational inequalities can be decimated, a huge change will follow in the social structure. However, to obtain the very change educational disparity, impetus from political and economic sector is inevitable.
