Abstract

The period from 1722 to 1856 was a momentous time which is beyond comprehension of any single research work. After the decline of Delhi in the 18th century following the raids of Nadir Shah, the legacy faced a crisis of patronage and identity. Awadh became the epitome of the cultural matrix of India. A genuine composite culture grew slowly, illumined by lanterns of understanding, creating a mixed society with firm bonds of emotional integration. Such was the cultural arena that witnessed exodus of artists and painters from Delhi to Awadh and gradually adapting themselves quickly to the changing patterns of patronage.1 Now the question comes whether we may classify the artistic creations of Awadh under a separate school of art that is Awadh School of Art. To assess whether it could be classified as a style or not it is to be tested under four criteria which are yardsticks to measure for the establishment of a particular style of painting,

Abstract

Psychological contract (PC) has emerged as a construct to deal with complex relationship between the employees and employers (Pate, 2006). The research in the area of PC has grown significantly due to its link with favorable organizational outcomes. PC refers to the expectations which employee and employer have from each other and what they owe to each other. The traditional PC between the employee and employer is breaking. In a fiercely competitive environment employer is no longer obliged to provide lifelong job security, guaranteed pay increases, and assured career opportunities (Singh, 1998; Herriot et al., 1997). The old PC is altered and both employee and employer are equally concerned about the new PC (Rousseau,1995; Welch & Hood, 1992). The new PC has resulted in emergence of new factors and outcomes. A healthy employee-employer relationship has become fundamental aspect for survival of the organization. The examination of its factors is necessary in order to understand and predict the consequences of PC. There are various individual and organizational factors which influence PC. Therefore, there is need for comprehensive framework to understand the PC to take it to another level in the current era.

Abstract

The area of Jaipur was formally known as Dhundhar and later on as Amber. These changes in the nomenclature were also followed by certain drastic changes in the regimes and the politico- economic setup, which will be studied ahead. In the Medieval period the nomenclature of the territory now comprising the districts of Jaipur and Alwar was Dhundhar, which later came to be known as Amber Raj or the Jaipur state. There is debate regarding the territory of Dhundhar amongst the historians. Dr. J.P. Stration comments that the word dhund is desert waste land. He further says that the term Dhundhar may have been derived from demon king Dhundhu. In his work Col. Tod propounded that Dhundhar is the area around a celebrated sacrificial Dhundha i.e. mound on the western frontier near Kalik – Jobner. Nainsi in his Khayat also makes reference of the Dhundhar region.

Abstract: Emigration is not a new phenomenon in India but globalization has reinforced it. India has been a source of emigrants for many countries for a long period. Over 25 million Indian diaspora is spread across the world. Historically, during the British rule indenture labour from India was sent to other colonies. To regulate indentured emigration and to provide a mechanism for emigration, the British India government enacted Emigration Act, 1922. After independence, a majority of unskilled and semi-skilled labour emigrated to Gulf and South-East Asia, whereas white-collar workers preferred North America, Europe and Australia. They are contributing to both the economies in origin and destination. Due to increasing quantum of emigration, the Ministry of Labour enacted Emigration Act, 1983, which deals with the emigration of Indian workers for overseas employment on contractual basis, seeks to safeguard emigrants’ interest and ensures their welfare. The paper explains the reason behind enacting Emigration Act, 1983, and the changes in the form of an Emigration (Amendment) Rules, 2009. This paper examines the current status, effectiveness of the Act and rules.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Currency risk arises because of uncertainty in exchange rates. This Foreign exchange savings are invested in different or multi currency and different market portfolios. With consultation from Ministry of Finance, decisions are taken regarding the long-term application of derivatives or exposures on different currencies depending upon the currency movements and other considerations in the medium- and long term. Indian companies dealing with global companies often transact in different foreign currencies. To prevent companies from fluctuations rising in forex market, tools such as financial derivatives are often used to hedge the risk. Exchange rate risk arises if a firm has receivables, payables, assets or liabilities denominated in foreign currency, the regulations of the country require conversion of the same into domestic currency for operations or reporting, and the exchange rate is highly volatile. The risk is more especially in cases where the receivables and payables are contractually fixed in foreign currency. Today, globalization of world markets exposes those firms also to exchange rate risk that do not have any foreign currency denominated transactions. Hence foreign exchange rate risk is unavoidable.

Abstract

The objective of the present research paper is to analyse the women’s status in contemporary Haryanvi short stories. The article is an attempt to make the study of ever changing role of women in Haryanvi culture. The contemporary Haryanvi short stories have not been paid much attention in this direction so far. These short stories have been taken from the real life which project the new image of women hence these short stories become more significant. These short stories carry deep sensitiveness of uncounted pictures of social reality. Female have been following the man for ages due to the patriarchal social set up of society which is solely responsible for their plight but now she has awakened and wants to equalise her status. In this way, these short stories mark the mode of contemporary changing society. The regional writers present the predicaments which are imposed upon them for ages and while fighting against these predicaments, how they come out of their traditional role as a mother, daughter, sister and wife and acquire many new roles. Generally, female characters are fixed by gender stereotype in our society so that their attempts to transcend this position are often questioned. She has been treated in this way only because of this patriarchal system. It is a hard fact that women have not only been denied their existence as complete human beings; physically and mentally but also have been deprived of the opportunities to express their feelings, fear and distress. Women are eager to set egalitarianism with man. So, modernity is clearly visible in the emergence of contemporary short stories. It is a matter of great regret that even in the era of twenty - first century when Women Empowerment is discussed everywhere, but women are not given freedom as man enjoys in the male dominated society.

This form of management has been adopted by the many organizations. They welcome their innovative ideas concept and thoughts from the employees and involve them in decision – making. However, the idea could not gain much popularity among organizations. Studies have shown that only 3-5 per cent of organization have actually implemented this concept in their daily operations. Abstract : The modern education does not think its improvement without information and communication technology (ICT). It’s a precious electronic tool by which the higher education has been developing faster. The information and knowledge age is upon us due to rapid advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs). These new technologies are changing the way we live and work, and they are transforming many aspects of social and economic organization in ways we could have hardly imagined less than two decades ago. This paper assesses the role that ICTs can play in Indian development with special emphasis on governance. The focus of this paper is to examine the role of ICT in higher education in India. The world is moving rapidly towards digital media, the role of ICT in education has become increasingly important. There has been an unprecedented growth in the use of ICTs in teaching, research and extension activities. The sudden boom in Information Technology has transformed the way how knowledge is disseminated today. One of the changes it has brought about is the way how teachers interact and communicate with the students and vice-versa. In particular the paper has argued that ICTs have impacted on educational practice in education to date in quite small ways but that the impact will grow considerably in years to come and that ICT will become a strong agent for change among many educational practices.

ABSTRACT This paper examines the creation of social capital within self help groups that operate in many Indian villages. Self help groups are formed primarily as microfinance and poverty alleviation interventions. While the focus of most studies is on the economic result derived from microfinance interventions, this paper highlights the wider benefits that result from the growth of social capital. This has social implications for self help group members, their families, and the wider communities in which they live. The paper observes that social capital has a predominately positive influence on the actions of self help group members as they work for both collective and individual improvements in their community. The paper concludes that there are significant benefits and long term implications which flow into communities from collective actions resulting from the growth of social capital within self help groups. The paper is a ‘work in progress’ and does not seek to provide all the answers to this issue. Feedback relating to these practical experiences is welcomed by the author.

Abstract The term ‘Green’ in Green Revolution does not refer to its current meaning namely organic, pesticide-free forested etc. Quite the contrary. The term was coined by an official at the U.S. State Department, William Gaud in 1968. It refers to a period in the 60s & 70s, where farmers in India were persuaded to abandon traditional organic methods & grow crops the modern, American way. Farmers stopped growing old-fashioned grains, beans & vegetables & switched to new, high-yield varieties of wheat, rice & cotton. They began using chemical fertilizers instead of cow dung. They ploughed with tractors instead of bulls. In the year 2010 American president Mr. Barak Hussain Obama visited India & said “It’s time for India to enter into 2nd Green Revolution, whole hearted technological support will be given by us.” So the question arises does India really needs a 2nd Green Revolution. This paper will discuss such Grey points of the Green Revolution.

A free market economy is an economy in which all firms will have equal opportunities for fair trade of goods and services. Such economies experience higher competition within their various industries which result in better quality products and lower prices. Competition policy when we say is to protect competition, not competitors . The terminology begins from the conception of free market devoid of monopoly & antagonistic trade violations ensuring fair competition and less argument. Maintenance of status quo in the contemporary trading techniques when proven obsolete have paved for the parallel competitive arrangements. Though competition is apparent, but the creation of new arrangements duly hinges bypassing of legal restraints by some, through anti competition. The term anti-competitive cartel usually refers to such practices which have as their objective to restrict the competition .

In the world of software development today there are different examples and scenarios of distributed development, and in the last years, researchers have been trying to design processes that improve the efficiency and quality of distributed development, adapting agile methodologies to this context. The scattering of team members and functions around the world can introduce barriers to productivity: time zone differences can wreak havoc on project schedules, cultural and language differences can lead to misunderstanding of requirements. The failure of distributed project teams to work together effectively results in extra hours, schedule delays, cost overruns, and sometimes even outright failure of the project.

Broadly, foreign direct investment includes "mergers and acquisitions, building new facilities, reinvesting profits earned from overseas operations and intra company loans". In a narrow sense, foreign direct investment refers just to building new facilities. The numerical FDI figures based on varied definitions are not easily comparable. As a part of the national accounts of a country, and in regard to the GDP equation Y=C+I+G+(X-M)[Consumption + gross Investment + Government spending +(exports - imports)], where I is domestic investment plus foreign investment, FDI is defined as the net inflows of investment (inflow minus outflow) to acquire a lasting management interest (10 percent or more of voting stock) in an enterprise operating in an economy other than that of the investor.

E-governance has become the key to good-governance in a developing country like India. To be at par with developed countries, the Government of India had made out a plan to use Information Technology extensively in its operation to make more efficient and effective and also to bring transparency and accountability. However, for successful implementation of E-Governance, government officials have to realize that E-Governance is no longer a matter of choice, but an absolute need of the day. Cooperation from government officials and staff will be crucial in realizing the goals of modernizing this nation through E-Governance. While the developed countries have been able to benefit greatly from the wide use of Information Technology, many developing countries are still grasping to make sense of how IT fits into their problems. The trend is true in the case of E-Governance also. In every developing country, E-Governance has been talked about a lot; some government offices have even taken innovative steps towards certain E-Government projects. Since this is a new concept for government officials who are used to familiar methods of work, the growth of E-Governance is met with resistance and fear, among other infrastructural problems. This paper deals with the problems and challenges of E-Governance, reasons of E-Government Project Failures, current status of E-Governance related initiatives in India and future prospects of E-Governance in India.

The construction of more and more gitzy shopping malls has accompanied the recent initiatives towards making Delhi a World- Class City. According to those who support the World -Class City model, a world- class city means certain world class facilities and thus, by extension, world class shopping spaces. Shopping malls have generally been seen as planned, closed areas which have well maintained ambience. Despite open entry the crowd is well regulated inside the shopping area. However, what has simply escaped to catch one’s observation about this planned architectural structure with numerous stores, shining lights, clean floors, minimum noise pollution and a well regulated crowd is the fact that such spaces and the various modalities through which it functions are leading to the formation of new subjects and subjectivities by enlisting individuals in a race of conspicuous and symbolic consumption and crafting of the stylized as well as enterprising workforce. Recently, the fast pace of technological developments have actively bolstered this kind of subjectivity. This paper seeks to explore these new kinds of subjectivity that are created by the interaction of these new spaces and the attendant technological developments.

The belief that everyone, by virtue of her or his humanity, is entitled to certain human rights is 1fairly new. however, lie in earlier tradition and documents of many cultures. It took the catalyst of World War II to propel human rights onto the global stage and into the global conscience. Throughout much of history, people acquired rights and responsibilities through their membership in a group a family, indigenous nation, religion, class, community or state. Most societies have had traditions similar to the “golden rule” of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The Hindu Vedas, the Babylonian Code of Hammurabi, the Bible, the Quran (Koran) and the Analects of Confucius are five of the oldest written sources which address questions of people’s duties, rights, and responsibilities. In addition, the Inca and Aztec codes of conduct and justice and an Iroquois Constitution were Native American sources that existed well before the 18th century.

A customer-oriented organization places customer satisfaction at the core of each of its business decisions. Customer orientation is defined as an approach to sales and customer-relations in which staff focus on helping customers to meet their long-term needs and wants. Here, management and employees align their individual and team objectives around satisfying and retaining customers. This contrasts, in part, with a sales orientation, which is a strategic approach where the needs and wants of the firm or salesperson are valued over the customer.
