Though the Indian banks are making efforts in the CSR area but sill there is a requirement of more emphasis on CSR. The banks have focused on community welfare and farmers’ Welfare programs but the efforts for women welfare and education are not sizeable. There are some banks which are not even meeting the regulatory requirement of Priority sector lending and rural branch expansion. However, the private sector banks have overall highest contribution in CSR activities. But public sector banks still lagging in this area. There is a need to frame a CSR in every bank and prioritization of activities for social spending and allocation for separate funds should be given for this specific purpose in order to attain the social objectives.

Abstract Education, throughout the ages, has been increasingly recognized as key factor in the progress and survival of the individual and the society. Education acquired a great importance after the independence of the country. It was realized that if we really want to bring positive changes in society we need to educate all the citizens. The women constitute half of the country’s population and therefore it was important to educate them .It was felt that the socio-economic development of a country cannot be fully realized so long as its women are confined to subordinate position and their talents remain unexplored. It was thus concluded that educating women would help in their empowerment, enhance their status and they would be able to contribute their bit for society and play an important role in nation building. This realization inspired the founding fathers of the constitution of free India to include liberal educational provisions in the constitution. There are as many as 32 Articles in the Sixth and Seventh schedule of the Constitution which pertain to Education. Apart from Constitutional provisions, the Government of India also started various programmes from time to time, to promote women education in the country. The present paper tries to look into various causes of low literacy among women in India and the paper also tries to go through some major programmes and policies on education initiated by the Government of India, which have helped in encouraging and promoting education of women in India and are working towards their empowerment.

Abstract

“Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn – Benjamin Franklin”. The use of theories, metaphors, simulations and models has a great significance in higher education, especially in management disciplines, to comprehend the incomprehensible, to explain the unexplainable, or to view a big-picture of a system or process. Complex issues can be made less complex by using a model to solve problems. The process to develop model based approaches to improve teaching and learning in management education that illustrates multiple dimensions and variables, falls under the term management teaching. Management teaching is of great importance for Indian B-schools since the management education sector is strongly dependent on business, economy and society. In recent years, major B-schools have increasingly made big moves to prove their effectiveness to labour markets who demand right skills and competencies instead of degree. But, it is still a challenge for us to deliver satisfactory values to learners and vice-versa.

After a major economic crisis in 1991, the Government of India initiated bold reform measures and consequently the economy started experiencing a rapid economic growth rate and inflow of increasing foreign investment. Added to these has been the boom in the information technology sector where India is now rated to be virtually the leader. Pakistan inherited parliamentary form of democracy from Britain and it adopted federal structure of governance. Since then, there have been multiple experiments on democracy in Pakistan and its post colonial experience with the process of democratization offers an ambivalent picture. The democracy in Pakistan is deeply affected by the popular social norms, cultural behaviour, radical Islam and political arrangements. It has also faced severe domestic crises as a result of demands from different ethnic groups that challenge state legitimacy and its economic development also remains insufficient. The principles of social justice and basic rights of citizens have been theoretically accepted, yet Pakistan faces high rate of human rights violation. Pakistan is often called a ‘failed nation’ in popular media because of democratic deficit in the structure and functioning of the institutions of state. It is also called ‘immature democracy’ as the democracy in Pakistan is neither strong nor stable.

Anxiety is a basic human emotion consisting of fear and uncertainty that typically appears when an individual perceives an event as being a threat to the ego or self-esteem Sarason, 1988). In some instances, such as avoiding dangerous situations, anxiety can be helpful. However when taken to extremes, it may produce unwarranted results. In Indian education system, board examination, which starts at the secondary level of education, is very important because this level provides the base for future education and students face excessive anxiety. Students have anxiety about their marks, performance and also for their academic achievement. The board exam is the fear in itself. On one hand they wish to secure good percentage of marks for getting admission for their future education and the other hand they also want to prove themselves better than others in this highly competitive age.

Abstract

The paper is intended to find relevance in the academic scenario of the postcolonial world—India being a part of it—in which, academic politics has often tended to relocate the blames for social, political and economic problems, inherent in the societies of these countries, to their respective colonial histories. However, texts like Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Baby Halder’s A Life Less Ordinary or Shekhar Kapoor’s film-text Bandit Queen locate the evils at home: inherent in the indigenous societies. Of the three, one is an African novel, the second is a translated autobiography of an Indian domestic maid and another is the cinematic biography of a famous Indian dalit woman, literally the bandit queen, Phoolan Devi. Despite their thematic and generic differences, these texts have two fundamental similarities: first, they unveil the realities which are, in effect, hidden from the everyday experiences of the urban postcolonial academician; and second, they offer potentially severe criticism of the patriarchal societies in which they are set. This paper seeks introspection through the alternative lenses provided by these texts.

Abstract

Living in the trenches with other fellows and facing a huge pressure of witnessing the human losses, fatalities, great pains and sufferings of soldiers in battle zone, both Siegfried Loraine Sassoon (1886-1967) and Wilfred Edward Salter Owen (1893-1918) were drastically wounded.Death Anxiety is another concept that was taken into consideration also by Freud. However, he pointed out that individuals feel thanatophobia, fear of death. Without a doubt, Freud realised it as a mask for a profounder foundation of anxiety. According to him, as nobody is certain of his/her own expiry, therefore, individuals, in point of fact, did not fear death. As a matter of fact, because of the reality that the unconscious does not estimate the remaining amount of one’s life, passage of time or negations are not dealt with by the unconscious. In addition, no one has ever died that is why Freud assumed that the thing that we fear is not death itself. Relating it to Siegfried and Wilfred, as representatives of the so-called lost generation and as a result of their terrible trench experiences; and in connection with their life and poetry, it cannot be denied that transience, evanescence and ephemerality of happiness, youth, health, peace, tranquility and all existing beauty and even sufferings and pains in the world which are all either associated with thanatophobia or are its symptoms, have a noticeable frequency in their poems.

The success or failure of any government in Delhi depends largely on its ability to manage the federal arithmetic. In the country's existing federal structure, many core economic vitalities and service delivery functions are carried out by the states while the Centre provides broad economic and political directions. The Constitution provides a federal system of government in the country even though it describes India as ‘a Union of States’. The term implies that firstly, the Indian federation is not the result of an agreement between independent units, and secondly, the units of Indian federation cannot leave the federation. The Indian Constitution contains both the federal and non- federal features.

Banking in India originated in the last decades of the 18th century. The first banks were The General Bank of India which started in 1786, and the Bank of Hindustan, both of which are now defunct. The oldest bank in existence in India is the State Bank of India, which originated in the Bank of Calcutta in June 1806, which almost immediately became the Bank of Bengal. This was one of the three presidency banks, the other two being the Bank of Bombay and the Bank of Madras, all three of which were established under charters from the British East India Company. For many years the Presidency banks acted as quasi-central banks, as did their successors. The three banks merged in 1921 to form the Imperial Bank of India, which, upon India’s independence, became the State Bank of India.

The main purpose of the study was to examine the academic achievement of the students of Government primary schools in West Bengal. Through this study it was tried to find out the differences of achievement levels between urban and rural students. The effect of Sex discrimination on learner’s achievement was also verified. Lower class students and minority students are also included and stressed under the study. In doing so, a purposive sampling procedure was employed to elicit responses from over 400 students (total 220 girls and 217 boys) in urban and rural areas (220 rural students and 217 urban students). In this study only class II learners from Govt. primary schools were participated. The data collected were analyzed using the‘t’ test statistical procedure. Four null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the study revealed that the rural and urban students had comparable levels of achievement in some of the tested learning areas. Urban students performed significantly better. Infant mortality has remained a persistent problem throughout the world, even developed countries unable to reach to a zero level. The major problem lies in certain condition originating in the perinatal period which is responsible for most of the neonatal deaths. Establishing Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) is a major step by the government which will be able to solve problems like hypoxia, birth asphyxia, and other respiratory conditions at the time of birth but the proposed number of SNCUs seems very low for country like India. On the other hand problem like malformation of any organ of foetus can only be solved by routine foetus test and ultrasonography by specialists. It is found that ultrasonography is not widely promoted in antenatal care which potentially can reduce neonatal deaths as well as maternal mortality.

Many organizations consider value capital as the free cost of capital, yet this methodology is not significant in the current business world since value is a costlier wellspring of the fund than different wellsprings of money. Economic Value Added (EVA) figures the genuine benefit of the organization by considering the expense of value. Considering the requirement for measures that can adequately evaluate riches creation, Stern Stewart and Company has created two measurements specifically Economic Value Added (EVA) and Market Value Added (MVA). The deals and benefits of the organization are under strain and thusly the scientist thought of it as proper to take up the organization with the end goal of surveying the degree of monetary and business sector esteem included by the organization.

Abstract

In this paper, I shall study the interaction of tradition and modernity in U.R. AnanthaMurty’s novel: Samskara. The inquiry will be aimed at showing the distinctiveness of the Indian novel as a category. The discussion of Indian novel as caught between the conflicting claims of tradition and modernity is informed by the recognition and acceptance that the novel form was imported from the West. But the discussion does not end with this acceptance, but rather begins at this juncture; otherwise we would end up seeing the Indian novel as a servile copy of, and as such, inferior to its Western counterparts. To look at the Indian novel as a distinct category is really a project of Postcolonial Cultural Criticism. The endeavor is to view the Indian novel as a form born of a distinct and different cultural experience. But as the colonial experience is also a part of this experience; Indian novel inevitably involves a negotiation between East and West; tradition and modernity. This is a very complex relationship and both the elements act upon each other.
