Abstract

Today organizations are increasingly adopting team based rewards to enhance the team spirit and improve the performance of employee. The challenge in todays’ organizational environmentwhere people have conflicting goals and cultural transformation (collectivism to individualism) is to choose the most effective combination of reward strategies. The previous studies adopted an "either-or" approach while focusing on individual andteam-based rewards but not in combination. The present study examines the preference and impact of individual and team based rewards on employee performance. The data was collected from 300 employees working in Pharmaceuticals and Auto-ancillary firms situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra state of India. The findings reveal that individual based rewards are more preferable. Study also reveals that employee performance is positively related with individual based rewards but not with team based rewards.
