Abstract

Land reforms may be defined as regulation of ownership, operation, sales and inheritance of land. Generally people relate land reforms with redistribution of land from the landlords to landless peasants. Land is precious for any country as it is used by people for production of foodgrains, for place to live, for wood etc. India is considered as agrarian economy. There is scarcity of land. We see unequality in land distribution. A few people have much land while a large number of villagers are landless or with insufficient land. Unequal distribution of land affects productivity. To develop agriculture and to improve the conditions of poor farmers, it is necessary to implement various initiatives of land reform.
