Abstract

The present paper deals with the aspects like traditions, modernity and the clash between these two. Bhabani Bhattacharya’s second novel Music For Mohini was published in 1952. The novel has been centered on clash between tradition and modernity. This is the novel merged with women problems and working as well as living conditions. Women of India have been marginalized by the males especially in the villages. The theme of confrontation between orthodoxy and modernity is evident throughout the novel. Bhattacharya has tried to depict the modernity to fight against these traditional evils. As a result, Music For Mohini emerges as an important and vital text in its vibrant depiction of women characters from different levels of civilization.
