Abstract

Sometimes people misunderstand a word, it is more likely to happen when that word is associated with one aspect of human condition, the impact of culture and environment on the meaning of such words is more. Words such as disable, retard can have many meanings and can include feelings of prejudice, discrimination and abuse. Inability can be physical or mental. According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability “person with disability include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others”.
