UTTARAKHAND FOREST POLICIES UNDER THE BRITISH RULE

Abstract

From the beginning of early 19th century the forests of India received the proper share of attention both as the source of natural wealth and as a department of the administration. Uttarakhand was known for its dense forests. “An early commissioner of Kumaun, investigating sources of fed for a proposed iron mine, was bold enough to declare that the forests of Kumaun and Garhwal are boundless and, to all appearances, inexhaustible” .
