Stone tools make up the bulk of prehistoric material that has survived but there is no doubt that perishable material, sueh as wood, bone and antler played a substantial part in the prehistoric technology and industry, since about 1816 it has become customary to divide the prehistoric antiquities into three Ages of stone.
