Abstract

India is one of the few nations where a multi-party democratic system is flourishing. Since the independence period, Indian political parties have played caste-based. In the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, regional parties on specific caste identities. However, a new kind of politics emerged in the country in 1990, when the then Prime Minister, VP Singh, decided to enforce the suggestions of the Mandal Commission. After this, caste politics expanded in Uttar Pradesh. While many caste-based political parties emerged during this time, several parties emerged based on a single caste.
