Abstract

The population growth of a country is a bigger and very important factor in its overall economic growth. The division of labour in the early society made it unnecessary for everyone to learn, to read and write. Thus it compartmentalized the society. The task of learning remained the privilege of only those with whom reading and writing was largely and occupational necessity. The influence of caste and its hereditary occupation tended to work against the spread of literacy among the masses.
