Abstract

ESG, short for Environmental, Social and Governance, is a set of criteria that helps stakeholders evaluate an entity’s performance beyond the financial metrics. Within the world of finance, it means the integration of these ESG factors in the lending and investing decisions. Socially responsible investors pioneered the practice in terms of investing only in those companies’ equities that demonstrate environmentally and socially sustainable behavior along with good corporate governance. This is now slowly expanding to all areas of business activities, such as the onboarding of clients, suppliers, and other business partners.
