Abstract

Due to widespread financial market liberalisation and deregulation, cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As), an increase in the number of investors willing to invest abroad, and the quick development of modern telecommunication and computer networks, there has been a significant increase in international capital flows into India over the past 20 years, especially private capital flows as compared to official capital flows. A.T. Kearney's 2012 Annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) places India fifth in terms of the appeal of retail investments, trailing only Brazil, Chile, China, and Uruguay.
