After the sudden death of Amar Singh in 1908, Hari Singh, at the age of thirteen, was sent to Mayo College in Rajputana, Ajmer for his early education. After successfully completing his studies at Mayo college, Maharaja Pratap Singh “deputed colonel Milkha Singh Rajpuria Jamwal to train him initially in arms”, before sending him to Imperial Cadet Corps, Dehradun for more advanced training. In the meantime Maharaja Pratap Singh “employed Major H.K. Barr as his guardian and he continued in this capacity till 1918, when the guardianship of the young prince was entrusted to another British Officer, Captain Burge when Major Barr went on leave.”
