Abstract

Nineteen years after the September 11 attacks against the United States, we find that the trauma of the event still haunts the memory of many writers. The experience of the terror unleashed by the coordinated terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda and living with the appalling trauma and consequent question of identity has shaped and defined the writings of the subsequent writers.

1. Berntsen, D., & Rubin, D. (2006). The Centrality of Event Scale: A measure of integrating a trauma into one’s identity and its relation to post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. Behaviour Research and Therapy.
2. Campbell, W. K., Brunell, A. B., & Foster, J. D. (2004). Sitting here in limbo: Ego shock and posttraumatic growth. Psychological Inquiry.
