Abstract

Mandala is a Sanskrit term for circle. Kautilya developed a political geometry based on the shape of the mandala to accommodate various political circumstances. He characterised world relations as a mandala system in the seventh volume of Arthashastra. It was not a novel idea presented by Kautilya; Manu had already explored it, and there were indirect parallels to it in the Rigveda.
