Abstract

Majuli is the largest river island of the world situated in Assam, surrounded by mighty river Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Majuli had a total area of 12,50 square kilometers(prior to 1950) but having lost significantly her area due to severe river bank erosion in last decades and it has an area of only 422.65square kilometers in 2011.
