In the criminal justice system, an Ombudsman functions as a quasi-judicial authority, carrying out investigative and inquiring duties similar to those of Mohtasibs in Pakistan, Lokpals and Lokayuktas in India, Parliamentary Commissioners in the UK, and Ombudsmen in the USA.
