Abstract

An Acharya (Guru) is someone who not only strictly follows the customs and practices mentioned in the Sastras themselves but also preaches the same to others. As per the śaivāgama, an Acharya must possess many qualities in addition to expertise and deep knowledge of the four padas mentioned in the śaivāgama such as caryā Pada, kriyā Pada, yōga Pada and jñāna Pada.
