Abstract

Modern cultural forms started after the encounter of European culture and performing arts in late 18th and early 19th century. It addressed the theme of nationalism, self-identity, modernity etc. Contemporary (or for an umbrella term- modern) Indian theatres are a qualitative combination of Sanskrit, folk and European forms of theatre.
