A STUDY OF DEPRESSION AMONG CHILDREN IN RELATION TO SOME PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to investigate into the antecedent of depression among children with special reference to certain personality factors, which include Decisiveness, Responsibility, Emotional stability, Masculinity, Friendliness, Heterosexuality, Ego-strength, Curiosity, and Dominance.400 children were taken as a sample for the study by incidental-cum purposive sampling method. it was hypothesized that there would be significant relationship between personality characteristics and amount of depression. Research tool: Personal data blank, Manifest depression inventory,( Jamuar, 1986),Differential personality scale.( Sinha & Singh scale) was used and t-test was applied for the result analysis. Six hypotheses were confirmed and three hypotheses were rejected.
