Abstract

India often referred to as a country of villages, supports a large proportion of its population in rural areas. According to the 2011 census, 68.8% of India's population resides in villages. India has over 6.4 lakh villages, and Mahatma Gandhi emphasized the significance of village cleanliness even before independence.
