Abstract

English language is the second language in India for almost everyone who speaks it. The history of the language dates back in seventh century when it was treated a foreign language belonging to the Britishers. It became the second language of the elite during pre-independence era but it started growing continuously after independence. Today in our multilingual and multi-religious society English has acquired the status of official language, a link language between the different states of India.
