Abstract

Portuguese arrived in India Hindu medicine had progressed little beyond the stage at which it had been left by the famous medical triad of ancient India- Charaka substrata and Vagabhata who lived respectively in the first fifth and eighth centuries. The mission hospitals were also used for propagating Christianity, where patients were lured towards conversion. To some extent, this method exists even today. The Muslims, therefore, opposed the adoption of the allopathic system of medicine and took keen interest in indigenous Unani Tib and Ayurvedic systems.
