Abstract

Abstract : The modern education does not think its improvement without information and communication technology (ICT). It’s a precious electronic tool by which the higher education has been developing faster. The information and knowledge age is upon us due to rapid advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs). These new technologies are changing the way we live and work, and they are transforming many aspects of social and economic organization in ways we could have hardly imagined less than two decades ago. This paper assesses the role that ICTs can play in Indian development with special emphasis on governance. The focus of this paper is to examine the role of ICT in higher education in India. The world is moving rapidly towards digital media, the role of ICT in education has become increasingly important. There has been an unprecedented growth in the use of ICTs in teaching, research and extension activities. The sudden boom in Information Technology has transformed the way how knowledge is disseminated today. One of the changes it has brought about is the way how teachers interact and communicate with the students and vice-versa. In particular the paper has argued that ICTs have impacted on educational practice in education to date in quite small ways but that the impact will grow considerably in years to come and that ICT will become a strong agent for change among many educational practices.
