Abstract

ABSTRACT Regional Rural Banks were part and parcel of the Indian banking system until 1990. They played an important role in meeting the rural agricultural finance requirement along with the co-operative and commercial banks. After 1991, the Indian economy opened the flood gates in the name of economic reforms with the concept of Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization. The Indian banking has been facing keen competition from the new private banks and foreign banks. Indian public sector banks including Regional Rural Banks are facing the problem of liquidity, high cost operation, low percentage of profit and problem of NPA, for their survival in the competition.
