Abstract

The objective of the present study was to determine the difference in post-traumatic stress disorde-rand depressionbetween male and female cyclone victims. A sample of 60 (30 males and 30 fe-males) cyclone victims, aged between 50-55years, were randomly selected from the city of Vishak-hapatnam post cyclone Hudhud. The Screening Questionnaire for Disaster Mental Health (SQD) by Fujii, Kato& Maeda (1995) was administered to the sample. The findings indicated a significant difference between the male and female cyclone victims with respect to post-traumatic stress dis-order but no significant difference between the two groups with respect to depression. Such a study may provide useful information for setting up long-term support programmes and interventions to help the victims deal with mental health challenges.
