FACTORS AFFECTING EFFICIENCY IN PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS

Abstract

The term ' Public Sector Banks' denotes the Banks which have been owned by The Government of India since their nationalization in 1969 and 1980. Which the nationalization of 14 major banks in 1969 and 6 more banks in 1980 by the Indian Government headed by the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi to sustain the welfare policies designed by the Planning Commission of India from time to time. There nationalization banks which are known as the Public Sector Banks began to play an active and important role in the developmental activities of the Indian economy. Indian banking sector since then witnessed great structural and dimensional changes, increase in deposits and loans and advances, special support to priority sector and social banking activities.
