Resource is a substance or an element that satisfies human wants and necessities. It is a common belief in social sciences that resources can be classified as natural resource into various types such as land, water, air, soil, hydro-electricity, coal, petroleum, natural gas, fisheries and non-conventional energy resources e.g. wind, solar energy etc. however, resources being very important requirement of man can be classified on the basis of purpose they serve into following types viz, aesthetic, biological, cultural, ecological, historical, scenic, geological and recreational resources. This article explains these types of resources. It also highlights the significance of each category of resource.
