Abstract

Jean Jacques Rousseau is a very influential philosopher, who has left an indelible mark on almost all branches of knowledge. His influence on Romantic poetry, especially on the poetry of William Wordsworth, is pervasive. Though there is no concrete evidence whether Wordsworth read Rousseau’s work in his life, he certainly came in contact with the philosophy of Rousseau and imbibed many of the tenets of his philosophy in his own life as well as in his poetry as in Wordsworth’s youth Rousseau’s name was on the lips of every educated person.
