Abstract

As per Buddhist days the status of women in Indian was, on the whole, low and without honour. A daughter was nothing but a source of anxiety to her parents, for it was a disgrace to them, and inauspicious as well if they could not marry her; yet, it they could, they were often nearly ruined by their lavish expenditure on the wedding festivities.
