Abstract

The land use/ land cover data is significant in planning and management of land and water resources and the environment. The conventional field methods were used in inventory, mapping and monitoring the land use dynamics, which has been found to be inconsistent and time consuming, besides being questioned for its reliability. On the other hand, the technological innovations in the systems of spatial information gathering such as remote sensing and Global positioning System in recent years have emerged as supplementary methods, which have been found to be efficient and reliable in providing spatial data inputs with regular periodical intervals.
