COGNITIVE EMOTION REGULATION AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AMONG BOYS AND GIRLS OF CLASS TENTH

Abstract

Emotional feeling is a process that unravels in the context of a situation or condition. It is a complex process that involves several dimensions and it is sensitive to demands and resources of the environment as well as to personality dispositions. The study aims at identifying difference between males and females on the basis of emotions with respect to cognitive emotional regulation and emotional intelligence. Different environments demand different types of emotional reactions and hence regulation of emotions is also important. The present study sought to examine emotional intelligence, as the understanding of and feelings of connection with other people, is subject to change over short or long periods of time, with effects of cognitive emotion regulation. Emotional intelligence (EQ) helps a person to achieve happiness and success in life and it matters just as much as intellectual ability (IQ). It also helps people succeed at work, build stronger relationships, and achieve career and personal goals. This paper examines the relationship between emotional intelligence and cognitive emotion regulation among 148 class tenth students, aged 14-17 years, out of which 78 were boys and 70 were girls. Significant positive correlations were found between different subscales of‘Emotional Intelligence’ and ‘Cognitive Emotion Regulation’. The result came out to be highly significant according to the hypothesis formed.
