DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION SYSTEM IN INDIA –THE POST LIBERALIZATION SCENARIO

Abstract

On 15th August, 1947 the British left India forever. After freedom, new burdens and responsibilities came on the shoulders of Indians. The signs of progress became visible in every field of life including education. In has been realized that universities in an independent India plays a full role in nation building and enable the country to attain freedom from disease and ignorance in shortest possible time by the application of knowledge of science and technology. Due to these aspiration and objectives of higher education, resulted to the rapid growth of universities in India. Large grants were made to the universities by the government so as to improve standards of higher education on the advice of inter university board and the central advisory board of education. The government of India appointed the university education commission (1948-49) under the chairmanship of Dr Radhakrishnan for a thorough study of financially and academic problems of Indian universities. The government should recognize its responsibility for financing higher education and should contribute an additional amount of ten crores for the development of university education.
