Abstract

This article tries to show the relationship between socio-economic factors and availability of basic amenities in rural and urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It deals with the statistical analysis of the influence of socio-economic factors on the availability of basic amenities in rural and urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir for both census years of 2001 and 2011. The analysis has been carried out separately for rural and urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the statistical tools, correlation and regression methods have been used to identify the overall influence of socio-economic and demographic factors on the availability of housing and basic amenities. The socioeconomic factors taken as independent variables in this section are – Literacy rate separately for males and females for both censuses 2001 and 2011, Work participation rate- separately for total, male and female 2001 and 2011.
