Abstract

The identity issues, widlt pervasive all the times, affects countless people all over the world. It has also been the recurring theme in the novels of a number of novelists Mulk Raj Anand ,Arun Joshi,Anita Desai,Bhabani Bhattacharya among others. The very term "identity" the recognition of one's existence with one's group, class, profession, race, religion and country. The identity of a person is not some sort of a fixed rigidity but rather it is a continuing process, evolving from one stage to another and it becomes "identity crisis" on the moment it is threatened, damaged or lost, the same issue has been taken skillfully in Kamla Markandaya's present novel "The Nowhere Man" which deals with the problem of identity of an Indian couple settled in England.
