Abstract

ज्ञान और सूचना के दिन-प्रतिदिन, नित्य नए-नए प्रकार के विस्फोट, विस्तार और सूचना की बढ़ती बाढ़ के साथ-साथ प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की बढ़ती विभिन्न प्रकार की आवश्यकताएं, बढ़ता जीवन स्तर, बढ़ता बौद्धिक स्तर, आवृत्ति, परिणाम और सूचना की आवश्यकताएं बढ़ती हैं। सूचना प्रसारण विस्तार और उत्पादन के नित्य नए-नए तकनीकी यंत्रों के विकास के कारण भी भिन्न-भिन्न और नयी-नयी प्रकार की सूचना की आवश्यकताएं बढ़ी हैं। यह जटिल परिस्थिति अनेकार्थक और विषमरूपी प्रतीत होती है। अतः उपयोक्ताओं के किसी विशेष समूह की आवश्यकताएं और विशेष परिस्थिति या संख्या से सूचना के बहाव को निश्चित करना कठिन है। सूचना का उपयोग भी उतना ही जटिल है जितना कि अपनी विशिष्ट आवश्यकता का निर्धारण और मूल्यांकन किए बिना प्रभावशाली तरीके से सूचना प्राप्त करने का कार्य किसी भी साधारण प्रणाली से नहीं हो सकता। इस परिस्थिति ने सूचना अन्वेषण (खोज) और अन्वेषण के तरीके को निश्चित करने की आवधारणा को जन्म दिया जिसे सूचना अन्वेषण व्यवहार कहा जाता है।
