Abstract
The demonetization had a great significant and immediate impact on the state of the Indian economy. India has amongst the highest level of currencies in circulation as of Nov 4, 2016 at 13% of GDP. Cash on hand is an estimated at around 3.2% of household assets, higher than investment in equities. Of this cash, 86.5% is in the form of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in circulation (11% of GDP). This paper will take up the issues & challenges related to demonetization. The paper also discusses the past experience of demonetization in India and its outcomes.
