Abstract

All the personal laws derive their authority from religion, any change in personal law through coercion has been perceived as threat to the identity of that community. Religious personal laws control and direct marriage, divorce, maintenance, guardianship of children, adoption, succession and inheritance and as such have serious implications for women’s rights within family and marriage.
