RECOVERY OF NON-PERFORMING ASSETS IN INDIAN BANKING SYSTEM

Abstract

The Indian banking system is adopting international best practices with a vision to strengthen the banking sector. Presently following the Basel Accords II norms, the Reserve Bank of India has envisioned full implementation of Basel III norms by 2019. While undergoing such significant reforms, one issue has been threatening the stability and demolishing profitability of Indian banks – the issue of the rising Non Performing Assets (NPAs).
