Geographical Indication guarantee to the consumers by providing certain information about quality of product and GIs serves as a mean for consumers to distinguish between different types of products. GIs are also functions as an asset for producers because by registered GIs producers can signal the exact value of their product. Comprehensive list state-wise and class-wise of actual registered GIs in India, which is based on main official Indian listing of protected GIs shows distribution of GIs. The uneven distribution of GIs can be seen clearly when one looks at the break down list by state. For GI registration, inclusion of human factor is essential to ensure quality of handicraft products due to its registration requirement.
