Abstract
The free merchants of Fort St. George, Madras played a significant role in the growth of English Company. There are several individual who settle in Fort St George, and contribute according to his own capability. These were the very foundation of the English Company. These free merchants were mostly landed in Fort St. George to trade, but help the English Company in different ability. We intended to ignore the history from below, which is one of the contributing factors for the English to reach in the most corners of the world. The Records of Fort St. George, Diary and Consultation had volume of materials, which is yet fully explore in-depth to our knowledge. The insight of these materials had great opening to understand the extent of the free merchants’ and their partnership along with the English company.
