QUALITY ASSURANCE MECHANISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A COMPARATIVE REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONAL RANKING SYSTEMS

Abstract

It is very important to have a benchmark against which quality of higher education can be judged and more so internationally. Many national and international institutional rankings have evolved to help stakeholders make more informed decisions. But three largely influential institutional rankings are Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE). The present paper makes an attempt to provide a comparative analysis of various aspects associated with these university rankings like criterion, weightages, sources of data collection and methodology.
